From June 5th to June 17th Module 2 of Pacific Islands Orthopaedic Association (PIOA) was held in Apia, Samoa. The topics were Infection, Inflammation and Professional topics, in addition a standardised trauma database for the Pacific Island countries was established. Nora Renz from Pro Implant Foundation was involved in the infection lectures and development of the infection form for the database.
PIOA was formed to promote and develop modern orthopaedic surgical care in the Islands of the South Pacific and to provide a training route for doctors of this region wishing to train as an orthopaedic surgeon. The training program runs over 5 years with fifteen live-in modules being held in different countries of the Pacific Island. PIOA has now active trainees from PNG (5), Solomon Islands (4), Samoa (3), Fiji (2), Kiribati (1), American Samoa (1), Vanuatu (1), and Federated States of Micronesia (1).
