Jose Francisco Baldovi Marin is a resident doctor in Internal Medicine from Mútua Terrassa Clinical Hospital, Barcelona, Spain, who performed 2-months observership at Septic Surgery Unit at Charité-University Medicine Berlin.
"As an Internal Medicine resident doctor in the last days of my residency program, I have to deal with community acquired and nosocomial infectious diseases, including the ones that happen in surgical patients. Also, as a future internist, it’s essential for me to learn working in an ‘interdisciplinary way’ with doctors from other medical and surgical specialities. That’s the reason why I chose to complete and enhance my knowledge in bone and joint infections at the Septic Orthopedic Surgery Unit at Charité Berlin (if you love your work, you’ll be a fool if you don’t choose the best place for doing it, won’t you?). And, to be honest, after attending the ProImplant Foundation Workshop last November 2016 in Berlin, I felt that I had chosen the right place to do it.
Of course that at Charité you’ll find all that you ever have imagined as an internist (clinical rounds, consultations, very interesting and challenging cases to discuss, clinical studies, amazing lab meetings in which you’ll be in touch with translational research projects), but, to be honest, that hasn’t been the best for me of these two months in Berlin.
To me, the most important thing is that I’ve found a truly not only learning but also teaching focused team that integrates you as a part of a team that involves internists, infectologists, clinical microbiologists, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, cardiologists, researchers...and all of this in a really lovely and kindly working environment, leaded by Dr Andrej Trampuz. I enjoyed the morning preparation of medical rounds and consultation cases with Dr. Susanne Georgi, Dr. Susanne Feihl and Dr. Luise Martin, was joining the interdisciplinary team with orthopedic surgeons leaded by Dr. Müller, was discuss ing challenging cases in the afternoons with Dr. Nora Renz, and attending lab meetings and saw presentations of amazing projects about you’ll hear the next years, and shared all that it with my brazilian colleague, another ESCMID Observer - Dr. Letícia Ziggiotti. And, of course, without any kind of worries about documentation thanks to Ms. Alise Tarasova.
This incredible group of people has turned my two months stage at Charité into the best experience I ever had in my profesional life and one of the best that I’ve had in my personal life. I really hope to keep in touch and come back to Charité in a near future for keep growing as a doctor and enjoying as a child.
Thanks to all of you, sincerely. I’m missing you every single day."Jose Francisco Baldovi Marin, Mútua Terrassa Clinical Hospital, Barcelona, Spain
