"In the winter of 2016/17 I had an amazing opportunity to perform a six week observership at the Center for Septic surgery of Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery at Charité - University Medicine Berlin, where I had the honor of being a part of excellent multidisciplinary team in one of the best hospitals in Germany.
As a young doctor with great interest in the field of orthopedics and trauma surgery, the decision of going to Berlin was one of the best ones in my life. I cannot imagine a better opportunity for gaining knowledge and insight. During six weeks of my stay at Charité I attended morning meetings and rounds, was in contact with patients, visited an outpatient clinic on regular basis, had performed small procedures under supervision and assisted in surgical procedures. I furthermore observed physicians treating a variety of complex infection cases from which I gathered knowledge about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of joint, bone and soft tissue infections.
I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to PD Dr. med. Andrej Trampuz, Head of Center for Septic surgery who went to great lengths to make my stay as nice and educative as possible. I would also like to thank everyone who helped me during my stay, especially to Dr. Constantin Dlaska and Dr. Anja Garbe, who made me feel welcome and took time to include me in their work.
I highly recommend visiting this excellent multidisciplinary center for Septic surgery to ambitious medical students, residents and specialist who want to expand their knowledge of septic surgery and joint and bone infections. The unique structure of the department that consists of surgeons, infectologists and microbiologists provides for a one-off experience that can not be duplicated anywhere else."
