"During the four weeks that I performed this observership, at the Septic Surgery department of Charité Hospital, I faced a new situation: an interdisciplinary team. It was a great privilege to know a team so integrated and so concerned about wellbeing of the patients.
I had the opportunity to visit research laboratory where ongoing research projects were presented to me. In the laboratory, I was in touch with microcallorimetry, sonication and molecular diagnosis. With these methods, prosthethic joint infection has an accurate diagnosis, it also allows to confirm the infection and to identify bacterial resistance a few hours after a surgical procedure. I had the oportunity to follow some experiments involving biofilms and antibiotics in vitro.
Taken together, I gained good knowledge and experience in this supporting environment of Charité - University Medicine Berlin. This encourages me to achieve my future career goals including establishing new molecular diagnostic technique laboratory and implementing a rigid infection control system in the hospital in my home country.
Special great thanks to PD Dr. Andrej Trampuz, for giving me an opportunity to be a part of his team, for maintaining a pleasant working atmosphere and for the possibility of further collaboration."
