"I was given a unique opportunity to perform a month long observership at the Septic Surgery Department in Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) at Charité - University Medicine Berlin.
My daily routine consisted of attending morning rounds and meetings, practicing bedside skills (e.g. blood specimens’ collection, peripheral intravenous lines insertion, postoperative wound management) as well as scrubbing in and assisting at orthopedic procedures.
I have to say I learned a lot about musculoskeletal surgery and prosthetic joint infections and realized how important patients’ individualized treatment and team effort is. I am highly convinced that this insight has been a great benefit to my future career as a doctor, and made me aware such an experience strongly influence your personal approach to your patients.
I cannot thank enough Prof. Dr. Trampuz for kindly enabling me to perform this observership, for his hospitality, kindness and all the conveyed knowledge. In fact, all the team of Septic Surgery Department was more than welcoming, keen on teaching me invaluable practical skills, enabling me to deepen my communication in German language, etc.
I would recommend this observership to anyone who is interested in gaining expertise in this unique field of medicine and would like to learn cutting edge novelties from this wonderful multidisciplinary team."
