In both treatment arms, the standard antimicrobial treatment regimen of 12 weeks will be used, selected according to the infecting microorganism(s) and their antimicrobial susceptibility. The aim of this experimental prospective multicentre study is to significantly improve the infection outcome, thus achieve infection-free condition after end of the treatment; to significantly improve the functional outcome, meaning that the pain is eliminated, patients have regained the general mobility and the overall quality of life has been improved.
