Dr. Mariagrazia Di Luca is a Medical Microbiologist. She received her PhD in “Microbiology and Genetics” from the University of Pisa in 2010, studying the role of a type VII secretion system in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and its involvement in the virulence of the microorganism.
After her PhD, she attended a 5-year Specialization School in “Microbiology and Virology” at University of Pisa, becoming Specialist in 2015 defending a thesis on bacterial biofilms in chronic rhinosinusitis and related diagnostic aspects.
During her Specialization she also worked as post-doctoral fellow for five years at NEST Laboratory of Scuola Normale Superiore and CNR- Nanoscience Institute investigating the role of antimicrobial peptides against bacterial biofilms using microscopy and spectroscopy techniques and developing BaAMPs (www.baamps.it) - the first biofilm-active antimicrobial peptides database.
In 2016 she joined Trampuz´ group at Charité University Medicine Berlin as responsible for the scientific management of the biofilm Research Lab.
Since June 2017 Dr Di Luca has been appointed as Researcher at Biology Department of University of Pisa and Translational Scientific Coordinator of PRO-IMPLANT Foundation.
