Tamta Tkhilaishvili CV

Tamta Tkhilaishvili edtDr. med. Tamta Tkhilaishvili graduated at the Tbilisi Medical University in Georgia in 2006, followed by residency in Infectious Diseases in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Currently she is doing postgraduate research on bacteriophages against biofilms at the Charité in Berlin, Germany.

Ms. Tamta Tkhilaishvili will be running her PhD project "Can bacteriophages eradicate microbial biofilms" at Charité-University Medicine Berlin from december 2015 till June 2017.

Biofilm microorganisms are up to 1,000 times more resistant to antibiotics than their planktonic (free-living) counterparts. The increasing development of antibiotic resistance problems lead to the investigation of new ways to fight biofilm infections, such as the use of bacteriophages.

This innovative project may lead to new treatment concepts for difficult-to treat infections, for which there are no antibiotics available at the moment.
