On July 8-9, 2016, a symposium and a round-table meeting on prosthetic joint infection (PJI) will take place in Vreden Russian Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, St. Petersburg, Russia.
First day of symposium will be dedicated to practical workshops, whereas second day will cover such topics as diagnosis of bone defect, surgical care, usage of bone cement, bone infections etc.
Last year the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation established collaboration with the Federal Center of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Arthroplasty, Barnaul, Russian Federation. Dr. Svetlana Karbysheva visited now Charité for a one month fellowship to perform research projects on diagnosis of PJI.
Dr. Stasa Mudrovcic, visiting young physician from Ljubljana, Slovenia, performed a one-month fellowship at Charité - University Medicine Berlin under the supervision of Dr. Andrej Trampuz. Her special research interest are implant infections caused by Propionibacterium acnes.
Eva Vacha is investigating hematogenous infections of joint prosthesis originating from the oral cavity. She is a dentist and finished her faculty at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich in 2014. This topic has a high clinical relevance since many periprosthetic joint infection may potentiall be prevented by appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis.
Workshop on Prosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) was a great success. Active involvement of participants provided highly interactive sessions with exchange of experience and strategies regarding PJI. All participants received valuable and useful material, including the newest version of the Pocket Guide to PJI.
Dr. Daniel Perez-Prieto is an orthopedic surgeon currently working in Hospital del Mar, Barcelona, Spain. He has been in close collaboration with PRO-IMPLANT Foundation and particularly Dr. Trampuz for several years.
On April 15, 2016 a conference Infections of the Musculoskeletal System: Basic principles, prevention, diagnosis and treatment took place in Riga Stradins University, Riga, Latvia. Chairman of PRO-IMPLANT Foundation Dr. Andrej Trampuz, Executive Board member Dr. Rihard Trebše and Dr. Nora Renz were invited speakers at this event.
Very popular PIF Pocket Guide to Diagnosis & Treatment of PJI is now available also as a mobile app for Android and iOS. Since its introduction, the Pocket Guide has become one of the most useful clinical tools.

On February 22-23, 2016 a Roundtable on Prosthetic Joint Infection took place in FSBI »FCTOE« of the Russian Federation Health Ministry, Barnaul, Russian Federation. PRO-IMPLANT Foundation chairman Dr. Andrej Trampuz and Dr. Nora Renz were invited speakers at this meeting.
Following clinical studies to improve diagnostic procedure of prosthetic joint infections were initiated in 2015 at the Charité-University Medicine hospital with support of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) and the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation (PIF).
At the recent visit of Dr. Andrej Trampuz in Maribor, invited by the Dean of the Medical Faculty, Prof. Ivan Krajnc, a collaboration program was discussed.
