Martin McNally is Consultant of Orthopaedic Surgeon in Limb Reconstruction at the Bone Infection Unit in Oxford. He is guest speaker at the Workshop on PJI on October 10-11, 2016 and will talk about managing bone defects in osteomyelitis, infected fractures and infected non-union.

On September 15, 2016, an AO Trauma Webinar about Algorithms for Orthopedic Infection was held by Dr. Andrej Trampuz and Dr. Olivier Borens. Webinar has been a great success with over 900 registrations and 270 live participations from all around the world.
PRO-IMPLANT Foundation had the honor to support three young scientists: Maria Eugenia Butini, Dr. Svetlana Karbysheva and Dr. Tamta Tkhilaishvili presenting their research projects in EBJIS conference in Oxford, UK in September 1-3, 2016. Dr. Svetlana Karbysheva from Barnaul, Russia, got 1st prize for the best poster.
Dr. Ignacio Escobar is a resident of clinical microbiology from Hospital de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain. He was a member of interdisciplinary team of Septic Surgery department at Charité - University Medicine Berlin for three months.
A new article in collaboration between Charité - University Medicine Berlin and Vreden Russian Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics: "Classification and algorithm for hip PJI" (in Russian language) has been published in the Journal "Traumatology and Orthopedics of Russia" 2016.
On July 8-9, 2016, a symposium and a round-table meeting on prosthetic joint infection (PJI) will take place in Vreden Russian Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, St. Petersburg, Russia.
First day of symposium will be dedicated to practical workshops, whereas second day will cover such topics as diagnosis of bone defect, surgical care, usage of bone cement, bone infections etc.
Last year the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation established collaboration with the Federal Center of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Arthroplasty, Barnaul, Russian Federation. Dr. Svetlana Karbysheva visited now Charité for a one month fellowship to perform research projects on diagnosis of PJI.
Dr. Stasa Mudrovcic, visiting young physician from Ljubljana, Slovenia, performed a one-month fellowship at Charité - University Medicine Berlin under the supervision of Dr. Andrej Trampuz. Her special research interest are implant infections caused by Propionibacterium acnes.
Eva Vacha is investigating hematogenous infections of joint prosthesis originating from the oral cavity. She is a dentist and finished her faculty at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich in 2014. This topic has a high clinical relevance since many periprosthetic joint infection may potentiall be prevented by appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis.
Workshop on Prosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) was a great success. Active involvement of participants provided highly interactive sessions with exchange of experience and strategies regarding PJI. All participants received valuable and useful material, including the newest version of the Pocket Guide to PJI.
Dr. Daniel Perez-Prieto is an orthopedic surgeon currently working in Hospital del Mar, Barcelona, Spain. He has been in close collaboration with PRO-IMPLANT Foundation and particularly Dr. Trampuz for several years.
