At the Annual Meeting of the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS) in Nantes, France on 7-9 September 2017, all activities of PRO-IMPLANT Foundation will be presented.
We are proudly announcing that we have completely renewed and upgraded one of our most prestigious projects, Consultation Service online portal, in order to better serve your needs, providing comprehensive and timely advice on the management of bone, joint, implant and other complex infections.
We have updated the content of our popular PIF Pocket Guide mobile app on PJI. Now you can also access the version 5 of »PIF Pocket Guide to Diagnosis & Treatment of PJI« through your mobile device. The new version of the content will download automatically the next time you open the app, and have the WiFi connection or Data Transfer enabled.
From June 5th to June 17th Module 2 of Pacific Islands Orthopaedic Association (PIOA) was held in Apia, Samoa. The topics were Infection, Inflammation and Professional topics, in addition a standardised trauma database for the Pacific Island countries was established. Nora Renz from Pro Implant Foundation was involved in the infection lectures and development of the infection form for the database.
These workshops provide an up-to-date information and practical approach to manage infections after fracture fixation and cover prevention, diagnosis and combined (antimicrobial and surgical) treatment. The aim is to review, update and advance the theoretical and practical knowledge concerning implant-associated infections. Special focus will be put on bone substitutes, bone cement and local antimicrobial therapy.

On April 27-29, 2017, South East European Forum on Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SEEFORT) was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Dr. Andrej Trampuz and Dr. Nora Renz both were among invited speakers to hold a talk on implant-associated infections.

Dr. Monta Madelane is an infectious diseases specialist from Gailezers Hospital in Riga, Latvia. She performed a 1-week ESCMID observership at Septic Surgery Unit at Charité-University Medicine Berlin.

Jose Francisco Baldovi Marin is a resident doctor in Internal Medicine from Mútua Terrassa Clinical Hospital, Barcelona, Spain, who performed 2-months observership at Septic Surgery Unit at Charité-University Medicine Berlin.
Vincent Krenn, in cooperation among others with Dr. Andrej Trampuz and Dr. Nora Renz, has made an interesting research work on CD15 focus score validation for the infection pathology of periprosthetic joint infection in a large group.
Septic Surgery Unit at Charité-University Medicine Berlin has been approved as ESCMID Mentorship Centre ID:36.
Under supervision of Dr. Andrej Trampuz, young or less experienced ESCMID members will be provided with the opportunity to obtain guidance for research and career development in an interdisciplinary team for a maximum of a two-year period.

Workshop on Prosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) was a great success. Active involvement of participants provided highly interactive sessions with exchange of experience and strategies regarding PJI. All participants received valuable and useful material, including the newest versions of the Pocket Guide to PJI and PII.

PRO-IMPLANT Foundation presents its second, brand new Pocket Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment of implant-associated infections after fracture fixation. This Pocket Guide puts emphasis on different treatment approaches depending on bone consolidation and soft tissue condition, including suppressive therapy until removal of the implant.
Prof. Olivier Borens will be one of main guest speakers during the upcoming Workshop on PJI in March 13-14, 2017. He will perform the hands-on session on mixing antimicrobial-loaded bone cement and give a talk on Septic Arthritis.
